With 105,183 people, Carlsbad, California is an average size city. Surprisingly, there are just 3 nursing homes there, which is not quite as many as we expected in a city of this size. This place's nursing homes received a superb city grade of A, so what this place lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the facilities in the nearby city of Temecula, which received a city grade of B+. As good as the nursing homes are in Temecula, we found Carlsbad to be on a whole other level. One of the major highlights of this place's remarkable report card is its nursing homes' short-term care scores. Short-term care grades are discussed in the next section.
As mentioned above, this city received a strong overall grade, but we also wanted to emphasize that we awarded Carlsbad an elite grade of A+ in the category of short-term care. With a short-term care score this high we would expect the majority of the facilities in Carlsbad to offer high levels of physical and occupational therapy staffing. In addition, we also wanted to emphasize that some of its facilities received almost perfect health inspections the past few years. For this reason, we awarded Carlsbad a grade of A for this area. Wrapping up its first-rate report card, the city were awarded an A for nursing and a B in long-term care.
