Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 7.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This score is based on the place's recent inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a nursing home. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. There are a host of datapoints included in this area. Many of the subcategories relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The final category we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of A. This completed a very impressive report card. Not many nursing homes earned an A- or higher in every category. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
