Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Very few places fared as well in this area. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we assessed this nursing home so favorably is that it received an A+ short-term care score. This is just about as strong as it gets in this category. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than a typical facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 76 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Another strength for this nursing home was long-term care, where it was awarded an A+ rating. This is just about as strong as it gets in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to providing very favorable levels of nursing care, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This figure is also far higher than the majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
In our final category, we awarded this facility an A+ for its nursing rating. This rounded out a very favorable profile. There are a host of subcategories within this area. Most of the criteria relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place provided 5.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is among the better figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by both of these figures. In addition to providing high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the country in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
