Paterson, New Jersey is an average size city with 146,199 people. The city has only 3 nursing homes, which is fewer than we expected in a city of this size. The nursing homes here received a phenomenal city grade of A-. Even with just a couple of nursing homes, this is still quite an achievement. We were impressed enough with this city to rate it as one of the top twenty five rated cities in all of New Jersey. This is a reminder that New Jersey has plenty of cities with excellent facilities. The best part of Paterson's strong report card was its nursing homes' inspection reports. Inspection reports are discussed in the next paragraph
To go along with its great overall grade, we awarded Paterson an A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. Paterson also really excelled in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Wrapping up its top notch profile, we gave the city grades of A- and B for our nursing and short-term care categories respectively.
