Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility earned near flawless inspections recently. We gave them an A+ in this area. Inspection scores are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A+. There are a variety of criteria included in this category. Many of these subcategories relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Moving on our third area, we gave this facility a grade of A for its long-term care grade. This is a very impressive grade. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 91.52543 percent of its patients. This is a bit less than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to the final category, this facility received a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an A- in this area, rounding out a straight A profile. Our short-term care grade is generally used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
