One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is that it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given strong marks in the category of short-term care. Consequently, it was given one of our highest grades in that area with a score of A+. Short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 76.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Compounding its high-end resume, this nursing home also received a superb long-term care grade, with a score of A. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We weren't able to locate information on vaccination rates. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our next category, this nursing home received a high-end nursing rating. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in this area, rounding out a straight A profile. We looked at the skill-level of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This facility provides an incredible 5 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these statistics as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
