Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A+. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is among the highest totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by both of these statistics. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With under five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any nursing home the state in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to receive more than one A+ category scores. In computing these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it outperformed most facilities in the nation in this area with 54.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
In our final area, this facility also received an impressive long-term care score, with a grade of A. This finished off a first-rate report card. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of offering elite levels of nurse staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This percentage is also significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.66 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
