Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this nursing home excelled in our short-term care rating. We gave them an A+ in this category. Short-term care ratings are vital for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was dominant in the area of long-term care, where it received a score of A. Only a select group of facilities fared better in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 80.95238 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a bit below what we expected but still a decent figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best grades in that category, with an impressive grade of A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. It doesn't appear that we were able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

The fourth category we graded is nursing, where this facility was given an A-. This topped off a very strong profile. Very few nursing homes received an A- or higher in every category. The nursing rating considers many data points. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as good measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
