With nine nursing homes in the city, there are a fair number of facilities in Towson, Maryland. The nursing homes here received an excellent city grade of B+. This is especially impressive given the number of facilities in the city. In fact, Towson turned out to be the twelfth best city in Maryland according to our ratings. This city's nursing homes were stronger in some categories than others, but it didn't have any poor grades in any of our four major categories. Additional information about its category grades is available in the next section.
As mentioned above, this city's nursing homes received a great overall grade, but we also wanted to emphasize that some of the city's nursing homes received nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded Towson an elite grade of A- for this area. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. In addition, the city also performed extremely well in the area of short-term care, where it earned an A- for this area. In the last two categories, we gave Towson slightly below average grades for our nursing and long-term care categories.
