Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality facility overall, this facility excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an A. Few facilities fared better in this category. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 61.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- for that area, which is one of our highest scores. This is one of the few facilities with an overall score in this range which earned multiple category grades this high. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Nursing grades are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This facility boasts an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, of which more than one hour of these hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Lastly, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our final area, we gave this facility a D in our long-term care category. This is the nursing home's least impressive category rating. Sadly, this category pulled down the facility's overall grade to some degree. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. On top of offering favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.29578 percent of its residents. These marks were notably more favorable than a few of its other statistics in the category. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.84 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
