Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to point out its decent grade of B- in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care grade is often used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that returned home from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
Facility Inspections
We actually gave this nursing home a very solid score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a B- in this category. This is better than many facilities in this category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Our nursing rating considers a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This place provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was long-term care, proved to be this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this facility gave the vaccine to only 55.27778 percent of its patients, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
