Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to performing well overall, this nursing home received even higher grades in our short-term care category. It received one of our highest grades in that area with a score of A. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next highest area was its long-term care score, where it was given a B-. Long-term care grades focus on a nursing home's personal care instead of the highly skilled nursing or healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 94.054054 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we rated was nursing. This facility was awarded a grade of B- in this category. Our nursing grade is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.
