Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received an A+ in short-term care. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is more often than not a fair measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Remarkably, this facility provides approximately 1.5 times as many hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we assessed. This is an excellent sign. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the country with 75.8 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Nursing scores are primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided 4.9 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This was one of the highest figures we found. In addition, a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. In addition to offering high levels of care, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we scored is long-term care. We gave this facility a solid grade in that area, with a grade of B-. Although this isn't on par with a few of its other scores, it is nevertheless not a major area of concern. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. On top of assessing the above average level of care provided by aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were impressed by the nursing home's vaccination statistics. For example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.337746 percent of its residents, which is very respectable. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
