Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we rated this facility so highly is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as strong as it gets in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is generally a useful measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. This place offered more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home with 66.1 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note the fact that this facility was awarded a dominant grade of A- in our long-term care category. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.81657 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.6 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we analyzed is nursing. This facility was given an impressive nursing grade in our assessment, with a grade of B. Even though this was not nearly as elite as a few of its other category grades, this is still one of our more favorable grades for this category. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This place provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an impressive statistic which typically corresponds with quality care. Lastly, we also looked at nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
