With a population of 62,039 people, Medina, Ohio is a relatively small city. There are just 3 nursing homes there, which does not give you too many choices. This place's limited supply of nursing homes were awarded a city grade of B. We also looked at the nursing homes in the nearby city of Lakewood. We found the nursing homes in Medina to be in a totally different league than the ones in Lakewood. The best aspect of Medina's impressive profile was its nursing homes' inspection ratings. In addition to performing well in its overall grade, most of the facilities in Medina performed remarkably well in the category of inspections. In fact, some of the nursing homes in the city received almost flawless inspection reports this year. As a result, the city received one of our highest scores in that area with an A-. Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. In addition, the city also fared well in the category of long-term care with a grade of B. Finally, we gave the city a B- in our short-term care category and a B- for nursing.
