Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is as good as it gets in this critical area. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive scores, this facility earned an excellent nursing rating. In fact, we gave it a grade of B in that category. Nursing scores are largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed was short-term care. This facility was awarded a favorable short-term care score, with a B in the area. Short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility performed better in this area than in its staffing levels. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the country in this area with 61.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was long-term care. We gave this nursing home one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of B. This facility ended up being strong across the board. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. This facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 1.21 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
