Facility Inspections
In addition to being an elite facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A+. Few nursing homes fared this well in this area. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
On the list of its many impressive grades, this nursing home was given a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a score of A in this category. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. This facility provided more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Ohio in this area with 61.8 percent of its residents returning home. At most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a dominant long-term care score. This actually is this facility's third best category score. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.28 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was better than the majority of nursing homes since it had more complicated patients.
Nurse Quality
The next area we scored was nursing. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a favorable grade of B. Our nursing rating is based on numerous factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
