Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed well in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A. Very few facilities performed better in this area. In our short-term care score, we strive to craft a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 64.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a far higher rate than most nursing homes.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we gave them one of our stronger scores in our long-term care category as well, with a B+. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.554565 percent of its residents, which is much higher than most nursing homes. This facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.56 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing. We awarded this nursing home one of our better grades in that category, with a B. While this isn't as high as a few of this facility's other scores, it is still a positive grade. Our nursing rating is primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
