Facility Inspections
In addition to faring well overall, this facility received a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A. Our nursing rating weighs numerous subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility boasts a really impressive 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident each day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this facility was also above average in several of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, this turned out to be this nursing home's third best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our short-term care grades are probably most meaningful for folks in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This place outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 55.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, where this facility was given a C. This was this facility's weakest area. This is still not a bad grade. Our long-term care grades are more critical for folks needing more conventional services associated with personal care. After looking at the very respectable amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.493675 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.22 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
