We discuss inspections in the next section
In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, the nursing homes in Port Jefferson performed remarkably well in our inspection category. In fact, we awarded the city an A+ for this category, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Port Jefferson also performed spectacularly well in our short-term care category, with an A- for that area. Rounding out its report card, we gave the city a B in our long-term care category and a B for nursing. We truly found this place to be very strong in each category we assessed.
