Facility Inspections
To go along with its decent overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this facility a B+ in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher scores. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.36102 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Although it had 1.83 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than the majority of nursing homes since it had more complex patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's third best category came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B-. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the country in this area with 51 percent of its patients returning home. This is a better rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
The final area we looked at was nursing. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D for nursing, leaving this as its least impressive grade. There are a host of subcategories included in this grade. Many of the factors reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. On top of receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
