Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. The nursing score analyzes many subcategories, but the paramount consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provides an incredible 5.8 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any facility in the country in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This is based on the place's recent inspection reports. Inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a of A+ for its long-term care grade. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of offering elite levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
In our last category, this facility also received an A+ for its short-term care score. This wrapped up a truly special report card of all A+'s. With our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about one and a half times as many hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we looked at. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in New York in this area with 61.6 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, at most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
