With 16,769 people, Agawam, Massachusetts is a relatively small city. There are just 4 nursing homes there, which does not give you too many choices. The nursing homes in this city received an excellent city grade of B+. Even with only a couple of facilities, this is still a high quality city grade. This is a better grade than most of the cities in the United States. The best aspect of Agawam's strong profile was its nursing homes' inspection scores. We discuss inspections in the next paragraph
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, many of the nursing homes in Agawam performed spectacularly well in terms of its inspection grade. In fact, some of its facilities received nearly flawless inspection reports this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that area with an A-. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. In addition, Agawam also really excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A-. In the other categories we looked at, the city earned a B+ for long-term care and a B- in the area of short-term care.
