Surprise, Arizona is a medium size city with 119,941 people. It features just 2 nursing homes, which is not quite as many as we expected in a city of this size. While this place didn't have a ton of nursing homes, this city's nursing homes received an excellent city grade of B+. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the facilities in the nearby city of Avondale, which received a decent city grade in its own right. Nevertheless, we found the nursing homes in Surprise to be in a totally different league than the ones in Avondale. This city's strong profile was highlighted by its nursing homes' inspection scores, which is addressed in the next paragraph.
This city's nursing homes received a great overall grade, but we especially wanted to point out that some of the city's facilities received almost flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave Surprise an impressive grade of A in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. In addition, the city earned a B+ in our short-term care category. Lastly, we gave Surprise middle of the road grades for our long-term care and nursing areas.
