Richmond, California is a medium size city with 81,602 people. It has only 2 nursing homes, which is fewer than we expected in a city of this size. We awarded the nursing homes in this city an excellent city grade of B+. Even with just a couple of facilities, this is still an impressive city grade. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the nursing homes in the nearby city of Novato. We found the facilities in Richmond to be in a totally different league than the ones in Novato. This city's nursing homes are stronger in some categories than others, but it didn't have any weak links in any of our four major categories. Additional information about its category grades is available in the next paragraph.
As mentioned above, this city's nursing homes received a great overall grade, but we especially wanted to point out that some of its facilities received nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave Richmond an elite grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. The city also fared well in the category of health short-term care with a B+. Wrapping up its impressive profile, we gave the city favorable grades for our nursing and long-term care categories as well.
