Richmond, California is a medium size city with 81,602 people. It has only 2 nursing homes, which is fewer than we expected in a city of this size. We awarded the nursing homes in this city a superb city grade of A. Even with just a couple of facilities, this is still a great achievement. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the nursing homes in the nearby city of Daly City, which which also appears to be a decent option. However, we found the nursing homes in Richmond to be in a totally different league than the ones in Daly City. Headlining this city's remarkable report card is its long-term care grade, which is addressed in the next section.
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, most of the nursing homes in Richmond performed especially well in terms of its long-term care grade. We awarded it one of our highest ratings in that category with a grade of A. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. We also wanted to point out that we gave Richmond an A for our short-term care category. Rounding out its straight A report card, we gave Richmond excellent grades for our inspections and nursing areas as well.
