There are two nursing homes in Alvin, Texas, which at least gives you a few choices. Unfortunately, these nursing homes didn't excel from a quality perspective. Its nursing homes received a city grade of D, which is a very poor grade at the city level. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the facilities in the nearby city of La Porte. While we not high on either city, we found the facilities in Alvin to be a better bet. While its overall score was awful, the facilities in Alvin performed favorably in our inspection category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for that category, which is one of our higher scores. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of deficiencies flagged. We also wanted to acknowledge that we gave Alvin a C in long-term care. Lastly, Alvin were awarded a grade of C in our short-term care category and a grade of F in the area of nursing. Despite an otherwise decent profile, a nursing grade of this caliber may be an ominous sign for nursing staffing levels.
