Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received high marks in the category of long-term care, with top notch score of A- in this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to elite nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination records was as good as it gets also. Indeed, this nursing home vaccinated 97.03504 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.5 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this nursing home an impressive grade of D. When calculating our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. Quantity of nursing care does not appear to be the problem here. Based on the data, it looks like this place provides an above average 4.4 hours per patient on a daily basis. This is more nursing care than most places provide. Despite performing well in terms of nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade substantially.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next category, this facility did not perform well. With a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this was its worst area. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 28.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
