With 137,067 people, Metairie, Louisiana is a moderately populated city. Surprisingly, there are just 2 nursing homes in the city, which is not quite as many as we expected in a city of this size. We gave the nursing homes in this city a superb city grade of A-. Even with just a couple of facilities, this is still quite an accomplishment. By way of comparison, we gave the nursing homes in the nearby city of Kenner a city grade of F, which is a far below average grade. Naturally, we found the facilities in Metairie to be rated much higher than the ones in Kenner. This city's impressive report card was highlighted by its nursing homes' inspection scores, which is addressed in the next paragraph.
On top of having quality nursing homes on the whole, this city's nursing homes really excelled in the category of inspections, where we gave it an A+. Very few cities fared this well in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. In addition, we also wanted to emphasize that we awarded the city an A in our long-term care rating. Rounding out its impressive profile, Metairie received a grade of B for its short-term care rating and a B for nursing. We truly found this place to be competent everywhere we looked.
