Although we gave this facility a horrible overall grade, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid facilities that had a long list of severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Sadly, this facility's next best score was long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care likely don't provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities offer. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 33.57664 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was also disappointing. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.25 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Our nursing grade analyzes several factors, however, the primary consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility averaged a meager 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is well below average. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible marks in several of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than twice the national average in this metric. This is quite alarming when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of earning a very poor nursing grade.

Historical

The final area we scored is short-term care, where this nursing home received a rock bottom score in this area also. It received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 24.4 percent of its patients returning home.
