Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this area. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients more often.

One of this nursing home's more favorable category grades came in the area of short-term care. This turned out to be its second most respectable category. The next category we graded was long-term care, where this nursing home received a C in this area. Our long-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of nursing care. This means a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.28436 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Turning to our final category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. We weight this category more heavily than our other categories. When a nursing home has this bad of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This particular nursing home was assessed 6 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
