Facility Inspections
This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's more favorable category grades was in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 96.90722 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. The nursing category includes many factors, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this statistic. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving a patient at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the next area, this nursing home was awarded a grade of B- for short-term care, which we consider to be a respectable grade. Our short-term care grade is typically used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
