With 137,067 people, Metairie, Louisiana is a moderately populated city. Surprisingly, there are just 4 nursing homes in the city, which is not quite as many as we expected in a city of this size. This relatively small group of facilities earned on average an overall grade of B-, which a decent score for the city. By way of comparison, we gave the facilities in the local city of Kenner a city grade of C, which is a well below average grade. While the two cities were relatively similar, we found the facilities in Metairie to be a better bet. The best part of this city's profile is its nursing homes' stellar inspection ratings. We discuss inspections in the following paragraph.
While its overall rating was fairly ordinary, we awarded Metairie a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Metairie also earned one of our better grades in the area of long-term care, with a B+. Finally, the city earned a C for its nursing score and a C for short-term care.
