Columbiana, Ohio is a medium size city with 10,331 people. The city features only 2 nursing homes, which doesn't give you too many options to choose from. This small group of nursing homes received on average an overall grade of B-, which is not a bad rating for the city. In fact, this city's city grade far surpassed the city grade of facilities in the local city of Massillon. While this grade are not terrible, we found Columbiana to be on a whole other level. The best part of this city's profile was its nursing homes' remarkable inspection scores. Inspection reports are discussed in the next paragraph.
This city received a fairly ordinary overall grade, however, we really want to point out that some of the nursing homes in the city virtually perfect health inspections in recent years. We gave it an elite grade of A in this category. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. In addition, Columbiana performed spectacularly well in the area of long-term care as well. As a result, it received an A- in this area. In the last two categories, the city earned a C for its short-term care grade and a grade of D in the area of nursing. Even with an otherwise decent profile, a nursing score this poor may be an ominous sign for nursing staffing levels.
