Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other achievements is its top-shelf long-term care score. We gave them one of our more impressive grades in that area, with a score of A-. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable area turned out to be its short-term care grade, where it received a B-. In computing these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we graded proved to be this facility's weakest area. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still gave it a decent grade of B- for our nursing category. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
