With two nursing homes in the city, there are only a few options to choose from in Middle Island, New York. We gave this city a city grade of B for overall nursing home quality. For comparison's sake, we also assessed the facilities in the nearby city of Bay Shore. We found the facilities in Middle Island to be slightly better. The best part of this city's strong report card is its nursing homes' inspection grades. We discuss inspections in the next section
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, most of the nursing homes in Middle Island performed spectacularly well in the category of inspections. In fact, some of its facilities received virtually flawless inspection reports this year. Consequently, we awarded it one of our highest ratings in that area with a grade of A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Middle Island also excelled in the area of government long-term care with a grade of B+. In the other categories we looked at, this place earned slightly below average grades for our short-term care and nursing areas.
