Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second most favorable category is long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a slightly below average score in this category. Long-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of care. This means a vast spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.681526 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we assessed was short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a decent grade of C. Short-term care grades are meaningful for prospective residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next area we assessed is nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. There are a host of factors within this grade. Most of the subcategories relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place.
