Mcallen, Texas has eight nursing homes to choose from, which is not a bad selection. These nursing homes received on average an overall grade of B-, which isn't a bad rating for the city. We also looked at the nursing homes in the nearby city of Mercedes, which received a city grade of D. While we not raving about either city, we found the facilities in Mcallen to be slightly better. The best part of this city's profile is its nursing homes' remarkable inspection grades. Inspection reports are discussed in the next paragraph.
While its overall grade was not elite, we awarded this city's nursing homes an A for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. In addition, the city also excelled in the area of health long-term care with a grade of B+. In the last two categories, we awarded the city slightly below average grades for our short-term care and nursing categories.
