Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this place favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave it a B in this category, which was much better than its overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility received its second most favorable category score in the category of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of B- in this area, which is a decent grade. Our long-term care scores are based on the nursing home's amount of nursing care. This means a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.40426 percent of its residents. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.98 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility was not too far off the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received its third highest category grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of C in this area, which is an acceptable score. Our short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. One reason for this place's strong score in this category is that it provides a substantially greater volume of physical therapist hours to its patients than a typical nursing home. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that it performed better than most nursing homes in the nation with 51.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing. We awarded it a C in this category. This is a decent grade in this area. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this statistic. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning patients more frequently.
