With 38,506 people, Newport, Kentucky is a small city. Unfortunately, there is just one nursing home there. We were relieved to discover that its only nursing home received an excellent overall grade of A-. For comparison's sake, we also looked at the nursing homes in the nearby city of Hamilton. We found the facility in Newport to be in a totally different league than most of the nursing homes in Hamilton. Topping off a great profile, Newport has the distinction of being one of the three highest rated cities in all of Kentucky.
As mentioned above, this city's lone nursing home received a strong overall grade, but we also wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless health inspections the past few years. We gave it an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This city also really excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it an A. Rounding out its report card, this place were awarded an A- for its short-term care grade and a C in nursing. Setting aside its nursing score, this place's three other grades were remarkably strong.
