Facility Inspections
In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility performed well in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Very few nursing homes fared as well in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. Unfortunately, it does not appear that we have information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
To complement its top-shelf achievements in other areas, we gave this facility a score of A for its short-term care score. Our short-term care grade is generally used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 65.8 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Long-term Care Quality
We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given a first-rate score of A in our long-term care category. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. On top of providing well above average levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. This combination proved to be successful as this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.84 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we graded, this facility was given a very strong grade of A in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home topped off a straight A report card. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides a very impressive 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is among the more impressive figures in the state. Lastly, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.
