Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this facility earned near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A+ in this category. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to resident safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also earned a score of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our short-term care grade is often employed to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. When we looked at this facility's physical therapist hours, we found it offered more hours of physical therapy per day to its residents than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 57.6 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also was given favorable long-term care grades this year. Indeed, we awarded them one of our higher grades in that category, with a score of B+. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. This nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Although it had 2.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes since it had some more complicated patients.
Nurse Quality
The next area we analyzed proved to be this nursing home's worst category. However, even its weakest link would likely be a strength for most facilities. We gave it an above average grade of B in our nursing category. The nursing grade weighs quite a few factors, however, the paramount consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
