With 38,506 people, Newport, Kentucky is a small city. Unfortunately, there is just one nursing home there. We were relieved to discover that its only nursing home received an excellent overall grade of A-. By way of comparison, we awarded the nursing homes in the nearby city of Hamilton a city grade of B, which is also an impressive grade. Nevertheless, we found this nursing home in Newport to be even better than most of the facilities in Hamilton. Finally, Newport has the prestigious distinction of being one of the top ten rated cities in Kentucky.
In addition to being an excellent nursing home overall, this city's only nursing home really excelled in the category of inspections, where we gave it a grade of A+. Few places earned a better grade in this category. Inspection grades are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This city also performed spectacularly well in our long-term care category. In fact, it earned an A. In our final two categories, this place received a grade of B+ for its short-term care grade and a C for nursing.
