With four nursing homes in the city, there are only a few options in Gulfport, Mississippi. We awarded the nursing homes in this city city grade of C, which is not quite as high of a score as we had hoped for. By way of comparison, we awarded the facilities in the local city of Moss Point a city grade of D, which is a well below average grade. While neither city received a rave review, we found the facilities in Gulfport to be a better option. Finally, this city's nursing homes were consistent in each of the major categories. Additional information about these categories can be found in the next paragraph.
While this city's nursing homes received a middle of the road overall grade, its long-term care grade is higher than its overall grade. We gave Gulfport one of our higher grades in this area with a grade of B. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition, the city received good inspection reports this year as well, earning a B in this category. Finally, Gulfport earned a grade of B- for nursing and a C in short-term care.
