Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its long-term care score, which is actually one of its more favorable category grades. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. We were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated 90.49296 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is quite a few points lower than average. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing grade is based on quite a few datapoints, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

The final category we scored is short-term care. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in this area. Short-term care grades are meaningful for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.9 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
