Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this very important category. Our inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also performed well in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. In crafting these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on our next area, this facility received first-rate long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in that category. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last category we rated, this nursing home was awarded an impressive grade grade of A- in our nursing category. With this score, the facility finished off a straight A report card. We assessed the licensure of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with patients, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
