There are two facilities in Norwalk, Iowa, so at least you have a few options. The nursing homes here received a strong city grade of B+. Even with just a couple of nursing homes, this is still an impressive city grade. We also looked at the facilities in Ames, which received a city grade of B-. Although this is a respectable grade, Norwalk appears to be a better place to find a nursing home. We were so impressed with this city that we ranked it as one of the top 500 cities in the entire nation.
This city's nursing homes received a strong overall grade, but we especially wanted to emphasize that some of the city's nursing homes received virtually perfect health inspections the past few years. We gave Norwalk an elite grade of A for this area. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Norwalk performed remarkably well in the area of long-term care as well. As a result, it received an A- in that area. Lastly, Norwalk earned a grade of B in our nursing category and a grade of B- in the area of short-term care.
