One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A+. Our nursing rating assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This facility provided 0.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This nursing home also was superb in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A. Only a select group of facilities received a better grade in this area. Short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

In our last area, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our long-term care rating. This completed a very strong profile. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.570816 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
