With a population of 36,592 , Lewiston, Maine is a relatively small city. There are only 4 nursing homes in the city, which doesn't give you too many choices. We gave the nursing homes here a superb city grade of A-. Even with just a few nursing homes, this is still a great achievement. This city has the distinction of being one of the top ten rated cities in all of Maine. This city's strong report card was highlighted by its nursing homes' inspection ratings, which we will address in the next paragraph.
This city received a great overall grade, but we especially wanted to emphasize that some of its nursing homes received virtually perfect health inspections in recent years. We awarded Lewiston an impressive grade of A in this area. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. In addition, the city also really excelled in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Wrapping up its excellent profile, the city received grades of A- and B for our nursing and long-term care categories respectively.
