Facility Inspections

Grade: A

With an overall grade this high, it should come as no surprise that this nursing home performed well in inspections, where it received an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A. We looked at the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also received a very impressive long-term care score. In fact, this ended up being this facility's third best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility a score of A-. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 91.860466 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category we graded, this nursing home was given a very strong grade of B+ in our short-term care category. With this score, the facility completed a very strong profile. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
