Short-term Care Quality
We want to note that this facility earned a far better grade for short-term care than it received overall. It received one of our best grades in that category with an A-. In forming our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we awarded this facility an B+ for our inspections category. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this facility so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Our nursing score assesses a handful of datapoints, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D in our long-term care category. This was the facility's worst category rating. Unfortunately, this category hurt the nursing home's overall profile a bit. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 82.94574 percent of its residents. This is many points lower than what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
